Belly fat is a problem area for many people. Sometimes it may seem that no matter what we do we just can’t get rid of that stubborn fat. Diet and exercise are critical to minimizing belly fat, but for those who need additional help body contouring is a great option. If you want to learn more about what options are available to you in the Phoenix area, call us at 602-375-8888 for a  consultation.

There are many foods out there that we associate as being “healthy” and helpful in our battle against belly fat. The following are some surprising foods that may be contributing to that unwanted belly without you even knowing it:

Low-fat flavored yogurt – When you choose a low-fat flavored yogurt, it has been processed and has had chemicals and sugar added, which contribute to belly fat. If choosing yogurt, make sure to opt for a full-fat plain yogurt and add fresh berries, cinnamon, or nuts to help dress it up and keep it healthy.

Energy bars – In many cases, energy bars contain between 4 and 10 teaspoons of sugar. Consuming this much sugar will trigger hunger sooner by making your blood sugar levels rise and quickly fall. This triggers insulin to help in balancing things out, which in return stores fat.

Single-serving oats – When you choose single-serve packets of oats make sure you know what is going in them. Many times these packets contain high levels of sugar with low protein and fat.

Egg whites – When you choose not to eat the yolk of an egg, you are not getting the vitamins, minerals, or essential healthy fats that the yolk has to offer. When you have belly fat, it’s important to eat a little more healthy fat to help regulate blood sugar and insulin.

Belly fat is definitely one of the more stubborn fats we have to deal with, but if you focus on the quality of the food you are eating and avoid processed foods and sugar while increasing the amount of healthy fat and protein you consume can help keep you full, level out your blood sugar, and fight the fat.
