Is BOTOX® Safe for the Body?

Phoenix, Arizona

Cosmetic treatments are broken into two broad categories, surgery, and minimally invasive procedures. By far, the most common cosmetic procedure requested in Phoenix, and the United States in general is BOTOX® Cosmetic. Each year, more than 4.5 million injections are provided to help people like you look their best.

Every medical and pharmacological treatment comes with certain risks and complications, but it seems that BOTOX® receives an unfair share of criticism. When questioning whether BOTOX® is safe for the body, the numbers show that the risks of dangerous and especially life threatening complications is very small.

Procedure

Small doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic are administered using a small needle into the treatment area. The pain is minimal and goes away after just a few moments. If necessary, a small topical anesthesia may be applied prior to injection.

BOTOX® Cosmetic acts to paralyze the muscles of the face that cause creases, folds, and wrinkles in the face. The most common areas are:

  • Glabalar lines
  • Furrows of the brow
  • Crows feet

Safety

The FDA regulates the uses for all drugs including BOTOX® Cosmetic and has approved its use for various medical treatments since 1989. Strict dosage guidelines are set to ensure your safety. The FDA does not regulate the administration of the product. Having BOTOX® Cosmetic administered by a qualified cosmetic surgeon greatly reduces the risks of any complications.

Complications

  • Bruising
  • Infection
  • Pain at injection site
  • Paralysis of nearby muscles

Although there have been some deaths associated with BOTOX® treatments, none have ever been tied to the use of BOTOX® as a cosmetic treatment. With over 4 million applications per year, the chances of fatal complications are extremely low. If you experience any symptoms that you feel are related to your injections, let doctor Angelchik know immediately.

Contraindications

Prior to treatment, a complete medical history is obtained and an examination is conducted to ensure that you are good physical health. In some cases, treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic is not recommended.

  • Hypertension
  • Infection
  • Motor neuropathy
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Ptosis
  • Thick skin
