Laser Hair Removal, FotoFacial RF™, and ReFirme™ - We have recently acquired the latest in laser and intense pulsed light ( IPL) technology at Claro™: the eLaser and eLight. Manufactured by Syneron™, these devices use a unique, proprietary combination of light energy in laser or IPL form, coupled with bipolar radiofrequency (RF) energy to deliver enhanced results with greater safety and comfort. While I was an early adopter of laser technology in my practice, I was initially disenchanted with some of the results of non-ablative lasers in the 1990’s. I waited until there was a product on the market that I could confidently offer my patients. Syneron™ fits the bill.

These devices are used for the following indications:

Laser Hair Removal – all hair colors including black, brown, red, white, gray, and blonde — from ALL skin types.
Vascular Lesions – spider veins, rosacea, flushing, angiomas

Elos™ stands for electro-optical synergy. Without getting into complicated discussions of physics, basically the light energy targets specific structures in the skin. By heating the target with radiofrequency energy, tissue resistance to light energy is lowered. This enhances delivery of light energy from the different lasers at their specific wavelengths that further heat the target area: hair follicle, blood vessel, pigmented skin, dermal matrix. This results in destruction and damage of unwanted targets. It also promotes collagen, elastin, and ground substance formation in the dermis which reduces wrinkles, tightens tissue, and acts like a filler. Because the RF energy enhances the light effect at lower energy levels, the treatments are safer and less prone to side effects like blistering, burns, and discoloration common to all laser and light treatments.

With ReFirme™ the tightening effects are delivered comfortably at a deeper level than competing technology. An advanced, built-in chilled handpiece and external chiller device, along with topical anesthesia, make all the treatments comfortable. No other laser manufacturer in the world has this combination elos™ technology.

Treatments for various conditions are typically packaged in groups of 5 for best results. Laser hair removal treatments are done at 6-8 week intervals on the body and 4 week intervals on the face typically. FotoFacial RF™ and ReFirme™ treatments are spaced 3 weeks apart. For comprehensive facial rejuvenation, combination packages with FotoFacial RF™ and ReFirme™ are done together.  Used in conjunction with one of our medical grade skin care programs and combined with wrinkle treatments with BOTOX® Cosmetic and fillers like Restylane® and Radiesse™, a non-invasive age-defying program with powerful results is created.

In order to obtain the best results it is important to avoid tanning before and after treatments. There is no complicated aftercare required and no downtime with these treatments; however certain recommendations for best results are made with each type of treatment.
