Breast Lift SurgeryIn Phoenix and Glendale, Arizona
Breast lift surgery is performed on women whose breasts have begun to sag or droop. Conditions which cause these problems may be pregnancy, congenital problems, aging and weight loss. Ptosis means sagging. This is a common reason for women to begin considering and looking into breast surgery. Ptosis begins when the connective tissues of the breasts become weakened and stretched, including the deeper layer of the skin and the ligaments that attach the breast tissue and skin to the muscle on the chest wall. Both of these factors can be brought on by age and are more common in women with larger breasts. An enlarged areola (the darker area surrounding the nipple) may also be the result of breast ptosis. There are a few different techniques used in breast lift surgery that depend on the amount of breast tissue involved, the amount of sagging and your preferences. If you have moderate to severe sagging and larger breasts, incisions will be longer and more lifting will be done. Smaller breasts and less sagging can be done with smaller incisions. It is important to weigh scarring considerations in deciding whether to have surgery. You can ask all your questions and discuss your concerns with Dr. Angelchik during the consultation. The longevity of results varies from patient to patient. The connective tissue structures are already weakened and may not support the breasts as well as when they were younger and had not undergone such changes as pregnancy and age. The breast lift results tend to last for years and will significantly improve overall appearance during that time. Time and gravity will continue to affect the body, but breast lift surgery can help to slow the process by removing excess skin and rearranging and lifting sagging tissues. If drains are used, they will typically be removed four to five days after surgery. For the first four weeks, you should avoid lifting weights greater than 10-15 pounds and any other strenuous upper body exercise. Pain medication will be prescribed and if you have also had breast augmentation, muscle relaxants may be prescribed. Sutures are dissolvable, so removal is not necessary. Bruising is minor and disappears after two to three weeks and swelling generally reduces over a period of weeks to months. Please see our Results page for Before and After pictures of breast lifts.
