Combining Breast Enhancement Surgeries

Some women seek breast surgery expecting to have a single procedure, such as a breast augmentation, a breast reduction, or a breast lift. But, few expect that the optimal solution might be a combination of breast enhancement procedures.

One likely combination would be a breast lift with a breast augmentation. For a woman who has ptosis (sagging breasts) without sufficient natural breast tissue, a breast lift alone may not provide a satisfactory result. An appropriately-sized implant can give a pleasing shape to the newly lifted breasts.

This combination of breast lift and augmentation, however, involves a trade-off. The breast implant adds weight to a breast that is being corrected for sagging. As would be expected, this weight could accelerate post-surgical sagging. The solution is to use a smaller implant that would minimize the weight and pull on the breast muscles and tissue, tension on the skin, and to settle for less lift than desired, but better overall shape.

Women with naturally large breasts who desire a breast reduction will undergo a surgery performed to enhance the look of the breasts by lifting them and making them more proportionate. Breast reduction often alleviates the back, neck and shoulder pain women with excessively large breasts experience daily.
