Understanding a Facelift
The Facelift procedure is used for lifting and tightening the tissue in your midface region with the use of different incisions and techniques. Who is a good candidate for a Facelift?
Everybody’s face ages in a different way and when you begin to experience aging signs in your face which bother, a facelift can be a good option. As long as you are in good emotional and physical health and still have some elasticity in your skin, you are a good candidate for the facelift. Dr. Angelchik recommends that if you are a smoker, you stop smoking a few months before your surgery so that it does not interfere with your healing. What can you expect from your Facelift surgery?
The Facelift procedure at Angelchik is a highly customizable procedure and we use different kinds of incisions and techniques to help you achieve your desired rejuvenation. Depending on the kind of results you expect, your procedure can also be less or more extensive. When you require a substantial amount of correction, Dr. Angelchik uses the traditional full facelift, which involves tightening and lifting of the skin and underlying tissue. The incision during this technique allows the most access to your underlying facial muscles. It involves the gentle lifting and tightening of your facial muscles, also known as SMAS or the superficial musculo-aponeurotic system.
If you are in your early 40s and are struggling with mild signs of aging, you can opt for the Mini Facelift, which will only target your lower facial area and offer a small improvement. This technique uses the short scar incision, which goes around the ear and gives your cheeks and jawline a reasonable amount of improvement. We can combine an additional incision under your chin during this procedure to give you a neck lift or for chin liposuction to enhance the chin area as well.
Your facelift surgery will be performed under general anesthesia and Dr. Angelchik will make the predetermined incisions to lift your facial skin. The underlying fat can also be manipulated to give you enhanced contours, and the underlying muscles are lifted and tightened to a more youthful position. The skin will then be replaced over the tightened muscles and Dr. Angelchik will remove any excess skin before suturing your incisions.
What is the recovery like?
Every patient experiences a unique recovery period depending on their body’s healing, but most of our patients are able to return to their jobs within two to three weeks post-surgery. There might be some bruising during the recovery, as well as some swelling and pain. We will prescribe medication to control the swelling and pain or discomfort and you must avoid rigorous exercises for the first two weeks. You are also advised to protect yourself from exposure to the sun, use sun protection when you step out.
