There are a variety of non-surgical treatment options to reverse common signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles. Two of the most common are BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers. While both of these treatment options are performed using non-surgical injections, they achieve their goals in very different ways. This page will provide a basic overview of the difference between BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers, but it cannot advise you about the best option for your unique individual needs. The best way to determine the ideal facial rejuvenation option for you is to speak with Dr. Paul Angelchik in person. BOTOX® Cosmetic
BOTOX® Cosmetic is used to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles in the following areas:
- Crow’s feet area around the eyes
- Horizontal forehead lines
- Vertical creases between the eyebrows
- Lines around the mouth
BOTOX® Cosmetic works by preventing your facial muscles from contracting. Once these muscles relax, the wrinkles formed when they contract will begin to smooth out. The end result is a more youthful, rejuvenated facial appearance. BOTOX® Cosmetic typically lasts approximately 3-4 months. You will need to undergo additional treatments in order to maintain your results for a longer period of time.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers use a biocompatible gel-like substance to fill in any lines or wrinkles and restore lost facial volume. Dermal fillers are commonly used to treat the following areas:
- Nasolabial folds
- Hollows under the eyes
- Thin lips
- Lost collagen in the cheeks
There are several dermal filler options. Each one uses slightly different materials and is more ideally suited to treating different facial regions. In addition, the duration of your results will vary based on the filler used. Dr. Angelchik offers the following dermal filler options:
