How to Recover From a RhinoplastyWhether it’s for cosmetic reasons or health issues, a rhinoplasty seems to be the top choice for men and women who are unhappy with the look or function of their nose. Rhinoplasties are one of the most common plastic surgeries in America, but many don’t know what to expect after surgery and have questions about nose surgery and recovery.

You’ll most likely have a slight headache after the anesthesia wears off, and you could look and feel swollen. Bruising is to be expected, but this will mostly subside after two weeks. Pain medications might be prescribed, but you should be able to switch to Tylenol after a few days. You will have a splint and bandage covering your nose for 5-7 days after surgery.

Dr. Angelchik in Scottsdale wants you to remain as healthy as possible before, during and after plastic surgery. The best way to recover from a rhinoplasty is to follow these tips:

1.Follow Recovery Instructions. Dr. Angelchik will give you directions to follow throughout the healing process. He will also see you for follow-up appointments to ensure your recovery is going well.

2.Keep Your Head Elevated. To avoid further pressure build up in your nasal cavity, keep your head elevated during the day and night.

3.Use a Cold Compress. Swelling and bruising could be persistent in the first few weeks after a rhinoplasty. You can use a cold pack or compress to help reduce the swelling.

4.Get Lots of Sleep. Your body needs adequate rest in order to heal. This means getting enough sleep. If you’re having trouble sleeping, speak with Dr. Angelchik about a mild sleep-aid.

5.Maintain a Healthy Diet. Another essential aspect to the healing process is your diet. You need ample vitamins and nutrients to encourage recovery. Health and nutrition are ever-important after surgery.

6.Avoid Strenuous Activity. Stay away from any activity that could raise your blood pressure. When your blood pressure goes up, so does the swelling. Wait until Dr. Angelchik says you’re ready for exercise. Some men and women can resume their workout routine three weeks post-surgery.

7.Use Moisturizer and Saline. You may experience a runny nose or congestion in the weeks following your rhinoplasty. You can use saline spray and specific moisturizer and ointment to prevent your nose from getting too dry.
