The rhinoplasty procedure aims to change different parts of the nose to make them more aesthetically-pleasing and bring them into better harmony with the rest of the face. Additionally, it can be used to correct anatomical issues like a deviated septum, which can cause difficulty breathing. These goals are achieved by surgical techniques that reduce or augment the anatomy of the nose using various methods. The rhinoplasty is often considered the most technically-challenging plastic surgery procedure because of the nose’s delicate structure. Because of this, the rhinoplasty can also come with the longest recovery periods out of any cosmetic procedure.

What are My Options for Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty can be performed using either the open or closed technique, and Dr. Angelchik will recommend the best option during your consultation. Open rhinoplasty involves a small incision across the columella, allowing full access to the nasal structure for extensive modifications, such as cartilage grafts or correcting a deviated septum. Closed rhinoplasty uses incisions inside the nostrils, leaving no visible scars and is ideal for minor adjustments like refining the nasal bridge or tip. Both approaches have unique benefits, and the choice depends on your goals and the complexity of the desired changes.

After rhinoplasty, rest and keep your head elevated to reduce swelling and bruising, which peaks within three days and fades within a week. You can return to work in 7-10 days and resume normal activities in a few weeks, but contact sports may require more time as advised by Dr. Angelchik.
While your nose will appear satisfactory after a few weeks, subtle changes may occur over the next year as swelling fully subsides. Rhinoplasty results are generally permanent, though slight age-related changes to the nose may occur over time.
