BOTOX® vs. Dysport®
Plastic surgery and skin care to help you look and feel your best
When considering a facial rejuvenation procedure, it’s often difficult to decide among your options for restoration in Phoenix. BOTOX® is, of course, the most famous injectable on the market, but it’s not your only choice. And you might have questions about the difference between BOTOX® and other options, especially Dysport®. Because Dysport is relatively new on the market, you might be unfamiliar with it. Phoenix plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Angelchik is happy to answer your questions about Dysport or any other procedure. We also make sure our Phoenix area patients always get the right procedures, whether that’s BOTOX, Dysport, another injectable or facial plastic surgery. Your safety and goals are always foremost in our mind. If you live in the Phoenix, Arizona area and you want to learn more about BOTOX® and other facial rejuvenation options, please call Dr. Paul Angelchik, MD today at 602-375-8888.
The important thing to keep in mind about both BOTOX and Dysport is that they’re more similar than they are different. At the highest level, both are proven injectables with a track record of safely rejuvenating aged, worn skin. Dr. Angelchik only offers effective, safe procedures and treatments. However, they’re also similar in how they work. Both BOTOX and Dysport use a form of botulinum toxin to block communications between nerves and the muscles in your treatment area. This prevents the muscles from contracting, and when the muscles don’t contract, wrinkles don’t form. Over time, existing wrinkles will fade. The end result of injections of either drug is a smoother, younger-looking face.
It’s not really possible to say that one of these injectables is “better” than the other; both work well and present miminal risk of serious complications. Still, there are some differences between the two injectables, and Phoenix-area patients should be aware of how BOTOX and Dysport differ before undergoing either treatment:
- Dysport injections are a little less expensive, as the product is slightly more diluted than BOTOX
- Dysport can act a little quicker than BOTOX
- Studies indicate that Dysport has slightly more potential to “spread” than BOTOX, which means that an inexperienced injecting physician might allow the material to spread to nearby areas and cause unfortunate side effects
- There’s conflicting evidence on the question of which lasts longer
- Finally, Dysport might prove useful for patients who have grown resistant to BOTOX after multiple treatments
