Dr. Angelchik is pleased to be one of the first ASPS board certified plastic surgeons to offer PermaLip™, the safe, definitive solution for permanent lip enhancement. PermaLip is a patented, FDA-approved, CE marked device designed exclusively for the lips that has undergone extensive clinical testing to ensure its safety and efficacy. If you prefer a permanent solution to thin or small lips, Dr. Angelchik can plan the right surgical procedure for you.
An ideal procedure for lip augmentation would produce permanent results, be quick and straightforward, have an excellent safety profile, and look and feel natural. Previous permanent lip implant devices have proved to be problematic because of stiffness, restricted movement, tissue adherence, and shape issues.
Currently, popular solutions typically involve the use of commercially-produced injectables, which are temporary and require repetitive treatments that are uncomfortable and costly over time. Another injectable option, autologous fat, requires a surgical liposuction procedure for harvesting, and can be unpredictable with respect to fat graft “take”, possible need for multiple treatments, lumps, and questions about long-term volume changes with weight fluctuation.
PermaLip is made of a soft, solid silicone elastomer using an injection molding process to produce a naturally-contoured implant with a smooth, non-porous surface. The implant cannot rupture or deflate, and may be removed at any time. PermaLip is the perfect solution for patients who are dissatisfied with the size and shape of their lips. PermaLip is not an injectable product, so patients do not require repetitive and painful treatments to maintain their results. PermaLip is contoured to the shape of your lips, has a smooth surface to minimize tissue ingrowth, and is reversible.
Patients in the Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Glendale, AZ area that benefit most from surgical lip augmentation are those who have tried lip fillers and would prefer long-term results. As with any surgical procedure, you should be in good health and able to undergo surgery. It’s important to stop smoking at least a few months in advance of surgery in order to have a successful recovery. Lip augmentation can be performed at the same time as other facial surgery procedures for additional rejuvenation.
PermaLip implants come in different sizes, so it’s important to discuss with Dr. Angelchik your goals for this procedure. He can recommend the best implant size for you depending on the size, shape, and projection you would like. However, it’s important to consider your existing anatomy so that your results don’t look fake or ‘ballooned’. It may be possible that you benefit from augmentation on only one lip in order to bring them into better harmony, and Dr. Angelchik can recommend the best fit for you.
Lip Augmentation with Dr. Angelchik
Most patients are able to resume regular activity the day after surgery, but you should expect to be swollen and slightly tender post-operatively. Depending on the patient, there may be some bruising around the lips as well. Dr. Angelchik can provide instructions to follow before the procedure in order to reduce the chance of bruising, although it may not be a guarantee. Discomfort is usually present for a few days, which can be alleviated by pain medication prescribed by Dr. Angelchik if needed. PermaLip can be reversed, so you should be sure to speak with Dr. Angelchik about your options if you find that your results change negatively over time.
