A favorite of our patients who are using the ZO® Medical system, this treatment begins with the removal of the top layer dead skin cells and facial hair. An enzyme gel containing papain, bromelain, and skin-soothing ingredients is then gently massaged into the skin. This treatment is great between or after chemical peels, with an add-on hydrating mask to calm and cool the skin, leaving you with a healthy glow. Dermaplaning can also be added prior to some chemical peels, oxygen facials, or microneedling.

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a professional-grade skincare treatment that gently exfoliates away the top layers of the skin that are often prone to skin cell buildup and congestion. This is accomplished through the use of a surgical scalpel which is gently and carefully shaved across the skin using quick, precise strokes. This technique can remove debris as well as fine vellus hairs that are often present on the face and can contribute to a dull complexion. Most patients notice excellent results with only one treatment and see a dramatic improvement in product absorption and makeup application after dermaplaning. For this reason, dermaplaning is a favorite treatment of many celebrities and models. It’s important to note that dermaplaning should always be performed by a trained specialist.

Who is a Candidate for Dermaplaning & Enzyme Treatment?

Dermaplaning is an excellent option for most skin types, providing effective exfoliation without the need for chemical exfoliants (which can produce side effects on certain skin types and tones). Patients that benefit most from dermaplaning are those with dry and dull skin. During your consultation with our skincare specialists, you should be sure to discuss your skincare goals as well as any topical medications you’re using (like retinoids) as well as any active skin conditions. These factors can affect your results or delay treatment.

How Does Dermaplaning & Enzyme Treatment Work?

Dermaplaning removes the debris and fine hairs from the surface of the skin, leaving a smooth, healthy, uncongested layer underneath. This can be very valuable in boosting your product absorption, making it an effective accompaniment to any active ingredients or additional skincare treatments you’re using. Additionally, our enzyme treatment can effectively speed up the rate of chemical reactions and cell processes, making it a gentle exfoliator in addition to the dermaplaning process. Enzymes can also provide protection from sun damage and an anti-inflammatory treatment to calm and soothe the skin. These two steps work in tandem to provide effective skin rejuvenation, as the dermaplaning process makes it easier for your skin to reap the benefits of enzyme treatment.

What Happens During Dermaplaning & Enzyme Treatment?

This skincare treatment begins with a deep cleanse of your skin to remove any products. Once the skin is treated and prepared, your skincare specialist will apply a surgical scalpel at an angle against the skin to gently and precisely scrape away any debris and fine hairs. This is performed on most areas of the face (avoiding sensitive areas like the lips and eyes). Once this process is complete, a cocktail of rejuvenating enzymes is applied to the skin to soothe and protect it. This procedure doesn’t require any downtime and you can return to your regular schedule immediately afterwards. You may, however, experience redness that generally subsides within the day.

How Can I Maintain My Results?

Dermaplaning can be performed regularly as a package of treatments or as a deep treatment before a big event. During your consultation with our skincare experts, you can discuss your skincare goals to determine how often you can opt for treatment to achieve your intended results. Dermaplaning is an excellent treatment to undergo in tandem with chemical peels, laser treatments, or oxygen facials in order to boost your results. Our skincare experts can also recommend the best in our selection of physician-grade products to supplement your at-home care and jumpstart your newly-cleared skin.
