Brow and Forehead Lift

Gain A More Youthful Look with a Brow & Forehead Lift

Although the facelift can address the mid and lower face, the forehead and brow can still be subject to sagging and aging over time. Although non-surgical treatments like Botox® can be effective for the short-term, the brow lift is one of the most effective ways to lift and tighten the skin and tissues of the forehead, reducing the appearance of sagging and tiredness.

What is a Brow Lift?

Drooping brows and a wrinkled appearance on the forehead can make you look tired or angry, even when you don’t feel like it. At the same time, descent of the brow may push forehead skin down onto the upper eyelid, exaggerating puffiness of the lids and sometimes obstructing vision. This can require surgical correction using incisions to lift and tighten the underlying tissues of the brow. A brow lift can often be combined with other facial procedures like a facelift or eyelid surgery.

Who is a Candidate for a Brow Lift?

Correction of brow and forehead sagging, termed ptosis, can help improve your appearance by:

  • Improving frown lines
  • Raising sagging brows
  • Reducing wrinkle lines across the forehead, bridge of the nose, and between the eyes
  • Placing eyebrows in a more youthful and alert position

Patients in the Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Glendale, AZ area that struggle with the above areas respond best to this procedure, so it’s important that Dr. Angelchik assesses your anatomy and goals to determine the best brow lift procedure for you. As with any plastic surgery procedure, you should be in general good health and stop smoking at least a few months in advance of your surgery. Be sure to let Dr. Angelchik know if you’ve recently undergone Botox treatment, as this is an important consideration for your surgical plan.

What are My Options for a Brow Lift?

There are some different techniques that can be used to rejuvenate the brow to different extents. The three different methods that Dr. Angelchik prefers include:

Endoscopic Forehead Lift

This technique can achieve minor improvements with small incisions and the use of an endoscope. This instrument is a small, fiberoptic tube with a small camera attached to allow for better visualization of the underlying tissues. These can be tightened using endotines, which are small plates with fork-like tines on them that can hold tissues in a lifted position during recovery. They then dissolve over the course of a year after surgery.

Temporal Forehead Lift

This technique uses small incisions within the upper eyelid to correct minor sagging in the brows and area between the brows where wrinkles have formed. This method is less invasive and is a great option for younger patients who don’t have substantial sagging.

Traditional Forehead Lift

This standard technique uses incisions across the top of the scalp to lift the skin of the brow and tighten the underlying tissues. Then, any excess skin is trimmed away before the incisions are closed. This is the preferred method for patients with more advanced cases of brow descent and heavily furrowed foreheads.

How is a Brow Lift Performed?

A brow lift is performed under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical facility. Most patients return home after the procedure, although Dr. Angelchik may decide that an overnight stay is necessary. Once anesthesia is administered, a predetermined incision is made that allows access to your concern areas. The underlying tissues are then lifted and tightened using gentle methods that produce natural-looking results. Excess skin is trimmed away before the incisions are closed, according to your unique surgical plan.

Brow Lift Recovery and Results

Most patients feel comfortable returning to work or school within one or two weeks of their surgery, although swelling and bruising can sometimes extend past this timeframe. Many patients experience bruising in the eyes or cheeks, which can cause them to choose to remain at home beyond their initial recovery. If you opt to conceal bruising with cosmetics, be sure to check with Dr. Angelchik to ensure that your incisions are not interrupted. You can expect some pain and discomfort during this time, but these can be managed with prescribed medications. Be sure to sleep with your head elevated during this time.
