Laser Resurfacing
Rejuvenate and clear the skin using the best in combination technology
Laser resurfacing has become one of the most popular options available when it comes to non-surgical rejuvenation. Resurfacing techniques are those which are used to rejuvenate the skin through removing dead skin cells and jumpstarting the skin’s regrowth process. This category includes lasers, dermabrasion, and chemical peels. Fractional laser treatments and nitrogen plasma beams are two of the newest resurfacing technologies available.

Laser resurfacing can refer to a few different types of laser treatments. However, their goal is to rejuvenate the skin and treat concerns using laser technology to boost the skin’s natural restorative functions. It can offer deeper, more precise results than traditional skincare treatments, as well as better customization when it comes to choosing the best laser technology for your unique procedure.
Although each person’s skin is unique and may not be the best candidate for laser treatments, patients that benefit most from this treatment are those who can also benefit from these advantages of laser resurfacing:
- An effective modality for treating aging skin, scarring, and environmental skin damage
- More precise than dermabrasion or chemical peels
- Individualized to patient’s needs and skin type
- May be incorporated with other procedures
- Another option to incisional surgery
The best way to determine how you can benefit from laser treatments is through a consultation with Dr. Angelchik, who can assess your skin and recommend the best treatment package for you.

Dr. Angelchik performs laser resurfacing utilizing the Sciton erbium: YAG laser. This device allows tremendous versatility and precision in performing resurfacing with less thermal injury (heating) of remaining tissue. It is a powerful and effective laser, but the reduction in heat to the healing tissues allows for quicker healing and resolution of post-laser redness. It also allows for a faster and more comfortable recovery in comparison to earlier generation lasers such as CO2 laser treatments. With this laser system, Dr. Angelchik can perform both ablative and non-ablative treatments.
Ablative Laser Resurfacing
Ablative, or tissue removal, laser techniques use light energy to remove the outer layers of the skin in a controlled fashion, which promotes a healing response that leaves the skin healthier in appearance and structure. These ablative forms of laser energy are absorbed by water in the treatment site tissue. While generally well-tolerated with a favorable risk profile, and capable of producing dramatic improvement in properly selected patients, most resurfacing laser procedures require a significant amount of aftercare and may require some lifestyle modification (such as avoiding prolonged sun exposure until completely healed).
Non-Ablative Laser Resurfacing
Some newer laser and intense pulsed light methods treat wrinkles without creating an external wound. Instead, they work by targeting pigment in the skin and jumpstarting the skin’s natural collagen production rate. These technologies are effective at improving the skin with minimal to no downtime, although it can require a package of treatments for best results. For the patient with a busy schedule and realistic expectations, these offer moderate improvement of wrinkles. Incorporation of these non-ablative treatments with a skin care program and injectables such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and Restylane® enhances the results.
Laser resurfacing can be performed in-office by Dr. Angelchik. The length of your treatment can depend on many factors like the technology used, the treatment area, and the extent of your treatment. However, Dr. Angelchik can give you the best idea of what to expect during your treatment sessions. Once you’re comfortable, you’ll be given protective eye shields to wear as the laser technology is applied to the skin. In cases of ablative treatments, you may be given a topical anesthetic for greater comfort. After the treatment, you’ll be able to return home.
After laser treatments, it’s very important to regularly use a protective sunscreen on the treated skin since the laser process can cause it to become photosensitive. Exposure to sunlight can cause hyperpigmentation, reversing your great results. Dr. Angelchik will ensure that you have the right skincare regimen to keep you skin healthy and clear during and after your laser treatment package, and can recommend our best physician-grade products to use at home. Many patients also benefit from additional skincare treatments to maintain results over time.
