What is the PlasmaPen?

PlasmaPen is handheld device that uses plasma technology to rejuvenate the skin without incisions or extensive downtime. It works by administering a controlled electric charge which reacts with the air between the skin and the device. There, it’s converted into a plasma energy arc which discharges into the skin. This process causes skin contraction and an ongoing collagen response over the course of a few months. This can effectively combat signs of aging with an improvement in skin laxity, texture, and the appearance of fine lines with minimal downtime and maximum results.

Can PlasmaPen be Used for Skin Tightening?

PlasmaPen is an effective way to tighten skin without surgery. Most patients see immediate tightening along with further improvement in the appearance of saggy skin over the next three months.

What Areas Can the PlasmaPen Be Used On?

  • Smile lines
  • Acne scars
  • Crow’s feet
  • Forehead lines
  • Jowls and jawline
  • Marionette lines
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Neck lines (turkey neck)
  • Smoker’s lines and lipstick lines
  • Stretch marks
  • Upper and lower eyelids

How Long Will It Take to See Results?

Although you’ll see noticeable tightening and improvement in your skin’s youthfulness over the following months, you may need additional treatments for best results. Our team can create a customized treatment plan based on your goals and unique concerns.

Is the PlasmaPen Treatment Painful?

PlasmaPen can be mildly to moderately uncomfortable. Since everyone’s pain tolerance is different, we can perform PlasmaPen using a topical numbing agent.

What Downtime Can I Expect After My PlasmaPen Treatment?

There’s minor downtime required after PlasmaPen treatment. You should plan on the following schedule:

  • Redness, swelling, and scabbing in the treatment area are common for the first few days
  • Most patients require around eight days of downtime for treatment of the face and neck
  • You may need about 10 to 14 days of downtime for treatment of the body, depending on your treatment area
  • You’ll experience swelling the day following your treatment, peaking around day three
  • Scabbing can begin to clear around day six or seven

Keep in mind that your recovery timeframe and results can be negatively affected if you don’t follow your skin therapist’s aftercare steps. This most importantly includes no drinking alcohol, no smoking, and no picking or scrubbing. Within a few weeks, you’ll begin to see noticeable improvement in your skin and increased collagen production in the following months.

FAQs

What does the PlasmaPen treat?

PlasmaPen is used to treat fine lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet, loose skin around the eyes, smile lines, and acne scars, as well as improve skin texture and pigmentation issues. Additionally, it can be used for skin tightening in areas like the neck, jawline, and around the mouth.

Is the PlasmaPen painful?

PlasmaPen treatments are generally well-tolerated but can cause mild discomfort. At our practice, we apply a numbing cream to the treatment area beforehand to help reduce any discomfort. Patients often report a slight tingling or stinging sensation during the procedure.

Can I receive a PlasmaPen treatment if I am pregnant?

No, PlasmaPen treatments are not recommended for individuals who are pregnant or nursing.

How long do results from the PlasmaPen last?

While results are long-lasting, they may vary from person to person.

While results are long-lasting, they may vary from person to person.

Many patients see significant improvement with a single PlasmaPen treatment, but some may need additional sessions for optimal results. Follow-up treatments are often spaced 6–8 weeks apart.

Can I drink after receiving a PlasmaPen treatment?

It is generally advised to avoid alcohol for at least 24–48 hours post-treatment, as alcohol can increase swelling and impede the healing process. Drinking can also thin the blood, potentially increasing bruising in some patients.

What are the side effects of the PlasmaPen?

Common side effects include redness, swelling, scabbing, and tenderness in the treated area. These typically subside within 5–10 days. Some patients may experience hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation, particularly those with darker skin tones. To reduce the risks of unwanted side-effects, be sure to choose a skilled PlasmaPen provider such as Dr. Angelchik.

How does the PlasmaPen work?

The PlasmaPen uses plasma energy to create tiny, controlled micro-traumas on the surface of the skin stimulating the natural healing response of the skin, encouraging collagen and elastin production, which leads to tighter, more youthful-looking skin.

Will the PlasmaPen leave scars?

When performed by a trained professional, PlasmaPen treatments should not cause scarring. However, it is crucial to follow aftercare instructions closely to avoid complications, as picking at scabs or improper care could lead to scarring in rare cases.

Can the PlasmaPen remove sunspots?

Yes, the PlasmaPen can help reduce the appearance of sunspots, as it targets the outer layers of skin, where sunspots often occur. However, results vary, and some patients may need additional treatments for sunspot reduction.
