A body lift, also known as a lower body lift, is designed to address factors like loose skin and excess fat in the lower body. These areas commonly include the hips, thighs, and abdomen, and are commonly affected by life events like pregnancy or weight loss. A body lift can be easily performed at the same time as a tummy tuck procedure or liposuction techniques.
Body Lift Case
Realistic expectations are important when considering plastic surgery in general, and are particularly important for any patient in the Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Glendale, AZ area who has undergone massive weight loss. Loss of elasticity in the skin in this group of patients can result in a greater likelihood of recurrent laxity after surgery or scar widening. Additionally, in patients who were very overweight for long periods of time, underlying skeletal changes may be present. Most patients, however, are extremely pleased with their results. Most massive weight loss patients require multiple stages for contouring of the lower body, breasts, arms, upper back, face, and neck to achieve optimal correction. Inner thigh lifts are not usually done at the same time as a lower body lift. These procedures are spaced apart to reduce surgical risk and promote quicker recovery. Overall, candidates should be in good health and able to undergo surgery.

Incisions
A lower body lift usually includes incisions all the way around the hip and groin area to remove an apron of skin and tissue, allowing for effective lifting and reshaping of the lower body areas. Dr. Angelchik will ensure that you understand your incision options and what to expect during your surgical session.
Liposuction
Liposuction can easily be performed at the same time as a lower body lift surgery. This can be used to further contour and reduce fat in the surrounding areas like the abdomen and thighs. Dr. Angelchik can recommend the right type of liposuction to effectively reduce fat.
Lower body lifts are performed under general anesthesia and are lengthy operations, taking 4–6 hours or more. You are typically admitted for two days following surgery for early mobilization and close monitoring. Drains are placed in the incisions to prevent fluid collection and remain for a variable length of time, depending on the amount of drainage. Incisions are closed with sutures and staples which are absorbable under your skin. A surgical adhesive is applied to the incisions after closure.

It’s important to exercise great care with movement and position after surgery to avoid disrupting suture lines. Typically, you will be in a flexed position for 6 days after surgery when lying down or walking to avoid excess tension on the abdominal skin flap. Walking is encouraged soon after surgery. A pain pump is used at surgery to deliver local anesthetic for four days after the procedure to the surgical sites. This can help prevent pain and discomfort and ensure that you’re able to rest and recover comfortably. During your consultation with Dr. Angelchik, he will ensure you have explicit care steps to follow in order to ensure you achieve your results and remain safe and risk-averse.
