On occasion, breast implants will wrinkle or ripple over time. In most instances, this issue is only detectable to the touch, but some women may notice visible rippling with their breast implants. The visibility of breast implant rippling will depend on factors including:
- Implant placement
- Implant type
- Natural amount of breast tissue
- Thickness of breast skin
Saline implants placed above the muscles in the chest are more likely to result in visible rippling. Women with small amounts of natural breast tissue or thin skin should consider submuscular placement and/or silicone implants. During your initial consultation, board-certified Phoenix plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Angelchik will discuss al of your options and help you determine what will best suit your physical and aesthetic needs.
Breast Implant Revision
Rippling is possible with any breast implant. If you have had breast augmentation and are unhappy with your results, Dr. Angelchik can discuss your options for breast augmentation revision surgery. Often, Dr. Angelchik can use your original incisions to remove and replace defective or unattractive implants. This procedure can also be used to improve the size of your breasts, correct asymmetry, or address any other issue you are facing after your initial breast augmentation.
