Gynecomastia is a condition in which male breast tissue is unusually large. It is often caused by an imbalance between the sex hormones estrogen and testosterone, though some medications can cause it as well. Although the condition is rarely serious, men suffering from gynecomastia may feel embarrassed or self-conscious.
If you live with breasts that are larger than you would prefer, modern cosmetic surgery can treat gynecomastia and help you achieve the body you want. Please contact Paul Angelchick, MD, today at 602-375-8888 to discuss your Scottsdale gynecomastia options.
Gynecomastia surgery typically involves a combination of liposuction treatment and removal of breast tissue. In some cases, skin may be removed as well. The surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia.
Recovery from gynecomastia surgery usually takes several weeks, though the most critical phase is the first week, when drains may be needed. For the first four weeks or so, patients are asked to wear compression garments at all times, then at night only for an additional four weeks. Dr. Angelchick usually prescribes antibiotics to prevent infection, pain medication to deal with pain and swelling, and Medrol as an anti-inflammatory agent. Our patients are often pleasantly surprised that discomfort is only mild to moderate.
