What To Expect From Microneedling Recovery
Microneedling is a great way to get significant improvement in facial texture, tone, and tightness without the need for surgery. However, as a more involved procedure than other med spa treatments, you will need to prepare for some downtime following your microneedling appointment. Here’s all you need to know about recovering from your microneedling treatment at board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Angelchik’s med spa.
Microneedling gets its results with no downtime, meaning with the proper skincare, you’re free to go about the rest of your day with no interruption. Your microneedling treatment consists of pre-chosen serums that are applied immediately after the treatment to take the most advantage of the created microchannels in the skin, helping our potent formulas penetrate more deeply than ever.
Once your treatment is complete, we recommend you apply a good broad-spectrum sunscreen to prevent irritation from sun exposure. Patients often experience some redness from the treatment, but other than that, little will be visible about your appearance. The night of your procedure, you should wash your face with a gentle cleanser, avoiding harsh, irritating products or those with acidic ingredients for several days.
For three days after your microneedling session, continue wearing broad-spectrum sunscreen regularly, even when you’re only outside for a little while. Continue to wash your face with a mild cleanser each morning and night, taking care to avoid overly scrubbing or exfoliating your skin during this time.
Although some results from the treatment may start to appear, the peak results take several weeks to become apparent. After three days, you’re free to resume your normal skincare routine and activities.
Around four to six weeks, your peak results should be appearing, as the collagen and elastin stimulation process hits its most efficient point. Depending on your personalized treatment plan, you will come back for another microneedling session after at least four weeks to further boost your results, whether for acne scars, skin tightening, or pore reduction. Most people benefit highly from five sessions of microneedling, with maintenance treatments recommended once or twice a year after that.
As you can see, microneedling is a very quick treatment to recover from, requiring no downtime the day of treatment other than the time needed to address any unfavorable redness. Although it does make your skin more sensitive in the short run, the benefits it provides after a full treatment plan are more than worth it. Because it doesn’t rely on lasers, microneedling is safe for people of all skin types and tones, and dramatically boosts the benefits of high-quality serums we provide for those who want it.
