Body Contouring Trims Your Figure After Massive Weight Loss

It takes a great deal of inner strength and discipline to transform your life and lose a massive amount of weight. Obesity is a widespread problem in America and takes a toll on nearly every aspect of your life, from declining health to plummeting self-confidence. Many men and women have been able to lose hundreds of pounds through exercise, diet and determination, but massive weight loss also comes with a large amount of excess, loose skin.

Body contouring can help you fully achieve your goals for your health and appearance by removing sagging skin and stubborn fat through one or more plastic surgery procedures including:

Surgery is the only way to get rid of excess skin after massive weight loss. Some companies advertise creams and lotions that help tighten lax skin, but these products won’t work for you. Exercise can ensure you keep your new figure, but won’t address sagging skin either. You’ve likely spent years trying to achieve your weight loss goal—now that you’ve reached your target weight, body contouring can complete your transformation.

In order to be a candidate for body contouring, you should be at or near your goal size and maintain a stable weight with only minor fluctuations. Additionally, you’ll need to have someone available to help you during your recovery and two to four weeks away from work to heal after your procedure(s), depending on the nature of your job.

If you’re struggling with excess skin and unwanted fat, contact our board-certified plastic surgeon in Glendale today at (602) 761-7887 to discuss your body contouring options. Dr. Angelchik provides experienced plastic surgery and skin care to clients in Glendale, Peoria, Sun City, Litchfield Park, Goodyear, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, and surrounding areas of Arizona.

How to Minimize Scarring From a Tummy Tuck | PhoenixA tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is one of the most popular plastic surgeries in the United States. This procedure can be done as a standalone surgery or performed alongside liposuction and/or breast augmentation for a mommy makeover. A tummy tuck can get rid of excess, sagging skin and unwanted fat, but our patients often worry about the scars they will have after their surgical wounds have healed.

The size of your tummy tuck scar will depend on the type of tummy tuck you have done. The traditional tummy tuck involves several incision sites the largest of which is the horizontal scar that stretches from hip to hip. This scar can usually be placed under the bikini line. The mini-tummy tuck offers the smallest scar.

The most important aspect of scar reduction is the surgical skill of your plastic surgeon and the amount of tension on the incision site. Tummy tuck scars will get worse before they get better. Typically, it takes up to six months for the scarring to begin to fade. However, scar treatment can begin as soon as the wound has healed.

There are several ways to reduce your tummy tuck scar including:

  • Optimal wound healing. The recovery process is vital to your health and the resulting tummy tuck scar. Any infection or inflammation can cause the scar to be more visible. Keep surgical tape on as long as possible to avoid tension.
  • Compression garments. These garments stimulate blood circulation, reduce swelling and prevent tension around the wound. Too much wound tension can make scars widen, causing the outside of the scar to raise and the inside to depress.
  • Lifestyle habits. Avoid exposing the area to the sun, and make sure to use sunscreen to protect the scar. For optimal healing and scar treatment, wear loose-fitting clothes and avoid smoking.
  • Laser treatment. There are many lasers that can treat surgical scars using high-energy laser beams to remove or transform damaged skin.
  • Additional surgery. If the scar is still pronounced and unsightly one year after your tummy tuck, you can have additional surgery to get rid of prominent scarring.

If you’re interested in a tummy tuck, contact our board-certified plastic surgeon in Phoenix today at (602) 761-7887 to schedule your consultation. Dr. Angelchik serves clients throughout Arizona including Phoenix, Glendale, Scottsdale and Peoria.

The Benefits of Lip Augmentation With PermaLip™ | ScottsdaleWhether you have thin lips due to genetics, aging or tobacco use, lip augmentation with PermaLip™ can safely and effectively give you full, plump lips. This lip implant is FDA-approved and has a high satisfaction rate among our patients in Scottsdale and surrounding areas. PermaLip™ is a permanent alternative to the use of injectables for lip enhancement—injectables require costly, repeat treatments to keep your desired results.

Our plastic surgeon, Dr. Angelchik, prefers PermaLip™ to injectables and fat grafting because the implant has a consistent, smooth surface that won’t become lumpy and is a one-time minimally invasive procedure.

There are many other benefits of PermaLip™ for lip augmentation including:

  • No risk of deflation or rupture of the implant.
  • It’s removable if you’re unsatisfied with your results, although this is rare.
  • PermaLip™ implant is contoured to fit the shape of your lips.
  • No repeat, painful treatments necessary.
  • The procedure is simple and usually performed in less than 30 minutes.
  • Your significant other won’t feel the implant while kissing and you likely won’t feel it either, depending on how thin your lips were previously.

The PermaLip™ Procedure

The PermaLip™ lip augmentation procedure is performed using local anesthetic. Our board-certified plastic surgeon will create two tiny incisions at the corners of your mouth. The silicone implant will then go through a path created by Dr. Angelchik from one side of your lip to the other. Dr. Angelchik will center the implant to ensure even results. When both lips are done, sutures are used for the incision sites, which will absorb naturally over time.

If you’re interested in lip augmentation, please contact Dr. Angelchik in Scottsdale today at (602) 761-7887 to schedule your PermaLip™ consultation. Our plastic surgeon serves clients in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Glendale and surrounding areas of Arizona.

5 Things You Need to Know About Buttock AugmentationButtock augmentation is a popular plastic surgery in the United States. More than 14,000 procedures were performed in 2015 according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). If you’re considering buttock augmentation, there are several aspects of the procedure you should know including:

1. There are 3 Types of Butt Lifts

While buttock augmentation can also involve butt implants, our board-certified plastic surgeon prefers butt lifts due to their success and natural-looking results. Dr. Angelchik offers three options for patients who want to accentuate their buttocks:

  1. Butterfly Butt Lift: Tightens loose skin tissue to lift your buttocks.
  2. Upper Butt Lift: Removes or repositions excess fat and pulls the skin to provide contour and lift.
  3. Brazilian Butt Lift: Fat is removed from another area of your body through liposuction, processed and then injected into your buttocks for a voluminous shape.

2. Buttock Augmentation With Fat Grafting Offers Long-Lasting Results

Butt lifts may offer longer lasting results than buttock implants because your own fat cells are used and there’s no need for additional surgery in the future. While a portion of the fat could be absorbed, your body readily accepts the fat transfer and can give you permanent results.

3. Your Results Depend on the Plastic Surgeon You Choose

The skill and experience of your plastic surgeon will directly impact the outcome of your buttock augmentation. Make sure he or she is board-certified by the ASPS and has ample experience with the procedure.

4. Buttock Augmentation Should Be Proportionate

Dr. Angelchik will make sure the size and shape of your buttocks looks even with the rest of your body. This ensures you have a natural body shape with lifted and contoured buttocks to match your figure.

5. The Recovery Process is Vital to Your Outcome

As with all surgical procedures, the recovery process is an important factor for your results and your health. You will need to avoid lying on your back or sitting down for several weeks. The Curve Cure can help you during this time. You will also need a friend or family member to assist you at first as well as eating a healthy diet and avoiding exercise.

If you’re interested in buttock augmentation, contact our plastic surgeon in Glendale today at (602) 761-7887 to schedule your consultation. Dr. Angelchik serves clients in Glendale, Phoenix, Scottsdale and surrounding areas of Arizona.

Gynecomastia typically occurs during adolescence or in men over the age of 50, but it can also be caused by medications, obesity and genetics. Exercise and a healthy diet can help men lose weight, but gynecomastia is a medical condition that may or may not subside on its own.

Regardless of the reason behind gynecomastia, enlarged breasts cause many men to feel embarrassed, and men can also experience pain due to the distended tissue. Luckily, there are treatments that can alleviate what many refer to as "man boobs."

3 Reasons to Have Nose Surgery & When Not To | ScottsdaleNose surgery (rhinoplasty) was the second most popular plastic surgery in 2015, falling just behind breast augmentation. Our plastic surgeon can give you the nose shape and size you’ve always wanted as well as correct functional issues. Nose surgery has many aesthetic and medical benefits. However, it’s important to have the right motives when undergoing an invasive surgical procedure.

If you’re thinking of having your nose reshaped, consider these reasons to have a rhinoplasty:

  1. You’re unhappy with the size or shape of your nose.
  2. You have difficulty breathing due to a facial injury or deviated septum.
  3. You’ve tried alternatives such as dermal fillers and BOTOX® Cosmetic.

There are many reasons to have nose surgery, but there are certain situations where a rhinoplasty may not be your best option including:

  1. You have a chronic illness or pre-existing medical condition that could complicate the procedure and your results.
  2. You don’t have the necessary time available to recover from surgery.
  3. You want your nose reshaped in order to please a friend or family member.
  4. You’re a smoker.

Nose surgery requires you to go under general anesthesia. This could cause complications if you’re in poor health or are a heavy smoker. Additionally, you should be fully grown before having a rhinoplasty, which typically occurs around age 16 for girls and a year later for boys.

Dr. Angelchik can discuss your rhinoplasty options during your consultation at our Scottsdale office. He can answer all of your questions and address any concerns you may have.

If you’re interested in nose surgery, please contact our board-certified plastic surgeon in Scottsdale today at (602) 761-7887 to schedule your consultation. Dr. Angelchik provides experienced plastic surgery to clients throughout Arizona including Scottsdale, Phoenix, Glendale, Mesa, Surprise and Peoria.

Get Rid of Your Lines & Wrinkles with Sculptra™ InjectablesIf you struggle with deep nasolabial folds or facial wrinkles including marionette lines, there is a new treatment option you should know about. Our Phoenix plastic surgeon and skin care expert offers Sculptra™ Aesthetic —an injectable filler that works differently than other kinds of injectables because it helps your body actually replace lost collagen.

Sculptra™ is Different

Other dermal fillers such as Restylane and Juvéderm can’t restore your own collagen the way Sculptra™ Aesthetic does. Your collagen production slows down as you age, which leads to wrinkles and lines. Collagen also helps restore your skin after an injury and prevents scarring. With three to six treatments, Sculptra® Aesthetic gradually replaces lost collagen for results that can last more than two years.

While other fillers may plump up the underlying tissues to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, they don’t last as long as Sculptra™ and need repeated treatments every few months in order to maintain results. Sculptra™ Aesthetic actually works with your biological processes to increase your body’s collagen production. It works gradually to subtly produce a more youthful appearance over time by stimulating this natural compound.

If you would like to learn more about Sculptra™ Aesthetic, please contact our expert skin care specialist in Phoenix today at (602) 761-7887 to schedule your consultation. Dr. Angelchik proudly serves patients in Phoenix, Glendale, Tempe, Scottsdale, Mesa and the surrounding areas of Arizona.

When is Breast Surgery Covered by Insurance? | ScottsdaleBreast surgery covers a broad spectrum of plastic surgery procedures. Health insurance providers do not cover breast surgery if it is for cosmetic reasons. However, there are exceptions: Healthcare companies may cover surgical costs when the procedure involves:

  • Breast reconstruction
  • Breast reduction
  • Uneven breasts

These procedures are sometimes medically necessary. For example, if you have had a mastectomy because of breast cancer or have health concerns due to large breasts. Some women have a genetic disposition to asymmetric breasts in which case breast augmentation may be considered necessary. If you have a ruptured breast implant, which has caused you pain and led to a capsular contracture, your health insurance may pay for implant removal, replacement or scar tissue release to alleviate your pain and correct breast deformities.

Will Insurance Cover Male Breast Surgery?

Some men have gynecomastia – excess breast tissue from hormonal changes during puberty, medication use or genetic abnormalities. Male breast surgery is largely elective and for cosmetic purposes. Health insurance providers generally do not cover gynecomastia costs, but there are rare occasions where the excess breast tissue causes pain or there are signs of a cancerous tumor.

Our board-certified plastic surgeon can help you decipher whether your surgery can be covered by insurance, but the best way to find out is by contacting your insurance representative. In the event that your plan doesn’t cover breast surgery, we can supply you with several financing options.

If you’re interested in breast surgery, please contact Dr. Angelchik in Scottsdale today at (602) 761-7887 to schedule your initial consultation. We provide experienced plastic surgery to clients in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Glendale and surrounding Arizona areas.
