We at Paul Angelchik, MD PC hope that you are well and taking appropriate precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our office is currently open and barring any guidance to the contrary, we plan to remain open as usual, M-F 8:30 AM to 4:40 PM, Mountain Standard Time. Should our schedule change in the face of this dynamic situation, we will keep you apprised in a timely fashion.
As we are now dealing with COVID-19 in Arizona and want to best serve our patients, the following precautions and options are in place at this time:
- This is the CDC website covering COVID-19. It has an abundance of good information for you to review: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html If you are ill – have a fever, cough, shortness of breath, chest discomfort, or have been exposed to somebody with Corona virus, contact the office at 602-375-8888 so we can reschedule elective appointments which are not urgent. Contact your family doctor regarding your symptoms and exercise precautions with those around you. This link from the CDC discusses prevention and treatment. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prepare/prevention.html?CDC_AA_refVal=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cdc.gov%2Fcoronavirus%2F2019-ncov%2Fabout%2Fprevention.html
- The office staff will be checking everybody’s temperature at their visit and will ask you to wash your hands or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer. This is for your and the staff’s protection. The office is being cleaned and surfaces wiped down with virucidal cleansers on a regular basis.
- If you are ill with respiratory symptoms and urgently need to come in to see us because of recent surgery or other procedure, please call us at 602-375-8888 or text us ahead of time through the Symplast Patient App beforehand, and let us know what is going on.
- We can do video consults and follow up appointments through a HIPAA secure smart phone video application inside the Symplast Patient App. You MUST download the Patient App to your IOS or Android based device to be able to have this type of appointment. Contact the office staff at 602-375-8888 for instructions. This telemedicine function can be quite convenient/ helpful in the current time of uncertainty. The Patient App also allows you to directly text the staff to get questions answered. In the unlikely event an emergent or urgent situation arises, this should still be called in to the office at 602-375-8888. DON’T USE THE PATIENT APP FOR EMERGENCIES. After hours this connects to the answering service and they will reach Dr. Angelchik.
Our practice is focused exclusively cosmetic plastic surgery and medical grade skin care at this time. In this context, our patients are healthy. Of course, somebody can come down with an acute illness, but generally we are not seeing them for these problems. They see their family doctor or the appropriate medical specialist.
So, the environment is not a high-risk environment for transmission of communicable diseases like you might see in a hospital or general medicine clinic setting. Similarly, we operate at outpatient surgery centers which cater to elective surgical procedures for healthy patients who do not need to be in the hospital. These facilities are safer from an infection transmission perspective than hospitals as well. Patients with acute respiratory illness do not get elective surgeries and therefore this is a lower risk environment than the hospital. Universal precautions are exercised in the office and at the surgery centers which we utilize. At this time, all the facilities we utilize are still open for business.
We recognize that the COVID-19 outbreak and associated economic effects are stressful for everybody. Nobody knows how long we will be functioning in a restricted environment. My impression, and I could be wrong as it is early days, is that the aggressive response by the Government to the virus will not be necessary for an extended period of time, but we may be living in this altered environment for six weeks to several months. On the upside, the virus seems to have peaked in China and South Korea at this time, and new cases in those countries are dwindling. Arizona thus far has few cases (12) and no deaths. While the USA has experienced a gradual rise in cases, it is not a huge number. In contract the seasonal influenza virus infected 30-45 million Americans this winter with at least 20,000 deaths. The number of COVID-19 cases will go up of course, but preliminarily I’m optimistic that we will bounce back from this relatively quickly, and that the epidemic will not have as severe an effect on us here in Arizona as in some other places.
We are here at your service and will respond to respond to any questions or concerns in a timely fashion. We understand that our patients/clients have many essential considerations to deal with during this stressful time. We value your trust and patronage. Stay healthy and stay positive! We look forward to seeing all of you soon.
